Kitchen Renovations
Butler's pantry and scullery design in Toronto and the GTA
The main kitchen stays clean for guests. The real work happens one door over.

A butler's pantry is a small working room off the kitchen, usually with counter space, storage and often a second sink. A scullery goes further, with a dishwasher and sometimes a second oven or range so the messy cooking stays out of view.
For people who entertain, it changes how hosting feels. Platters get plated out of sight, dirty dishes have somewhere to go, and the coffee machine and blender stop living on the island.
We plan these rooms around what you will actually do in them, then design the cabinetry and lighting to match the main kitchen so the two read as one space.

Before you build
What to plan for
Ventilation if you cook in it
A scullery with a cooktop or range needs proper exhaust, just like the main kitchen. We plan the duct route before finalizing the room.
Finding the space
Pantries often come from a converted mudroom, a closet or part of a dining room. We look at the floor plan together to find the space that costs the least to rework.
FAQ
Butler's pantries and sculleries: common questions
What is the difference between a butler's pantry and a scullery?
A butler's pantry is mainly storage and a serving counter, sometimes with a sink. A scullery is a full second working kitchen with cleanup and often cooking appliances, so the main kitchen stays tidy.
How big does a butler's pantry need to be?
It can work in a fairly narrow room with counters on one or both sides. What matters is enough aisle width to open doors and drawers and a door that does not block the work area.
Can a butler's pantry be added to an existing kitchen?
Often, by reworking an adjacent closet, mudroom or part of a dining room. Plumbing access usually decides how much it can include.
