Quartzite and stone kitchen countertops in Toronto and the GTA
We pick stone by how it lives, not just how it looks in the showroom.

Counters are one of the biggest decisions in a kitchen and the one people second-guess most. We have written in our Journal about how quartzite, marble, porcelain and quartz each wear over time. The short version: there is no perfect stone, only the right one for how you cook and how you feel about marks.
Once you choose, we handle the rest. We go with you to select the actual slabs, plan where the veining falls on the island and around the sink, and coordinate templating once cabinets are installed so the fit is exact.
Stone is ordered and laid out as part of the kitchen design, so the island, backsplash and edges all look intentional.

Before you build
What to plan for
Test quartzite before buying
Some stone sold as quartzite behaves more like marble and will etch. We bring samples so you can test with lemon juice and a knife tip at home.
Seams are planned, not avoided
Long runs and large islands may need a seam. We decide where it goes during design so it lands somewhere quiet.
Edges affect durability
Thin or very sharp edges chip more easily, especially on porcelain. A slightly eased edge holds up better on busy corners.
FAQ
Quartzite and stone countertops: common questions
Is quartzite better than quartz for a kitchen?
Real quartzite is a hard natural stone that handles heat and resists etching well. Quartz is engineered, consistent and very low maintenance indoors but less heat tolerant. Both are good choices for different people.
Does marble stain or etch in a kitchen?
Marble can stain if not sealed, and acids like lemon or wine will etch it regardless. Some people like how it ages. If marks bother you, look at quartzite or porcelain instead.
When are countertops installed in a kitchen renovation?
After base cabinets are installed and level. The fabricator templates the cabinets, cuts the stone, then installs it before the backsplash goes on.
